If the Shoe Fits, Fling it
When invited to make shoes for the "Craft Emergency Relief Fund" the
first thought that came to mind were the shoes thrown at President
Bush. Shoe throwing is the ultimate insult, a sign of contempt in
Iraqi culture. As he was throwing the shoes, the Iraqi television
journalist Muntadar al-Zaidi stood up and shouted "This is a goodbye
kiss from the Iraqi people, dog." With his second shoe, Mr Zaidi said:
"This is for the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq."
The attack was symbolic. Iraqis threw shoes and used them to beat
Saddam Hussein's statue after his overthrow.
With "If The Shoe Fits, Fling It" I offer a few more shoes that in
my opinion need to be thrown.
